Christ the King College (CKC), Ire-Ekiti, has been crowned champion of the 5th Ekiti Secondary Schools STEM Quiz Competition, demonstrating the value of strong science and mathematics education in preparing students for future careers.

The annual competition, organised by the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Education and Technology (CIMET), brought together some of the state’s brightest young learners. For parents, educators and school leaders, the event highlights how STEM competitions can build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills and encourage academic excellence beyond the classroom.

Christ the King College Claims the Top Prize

The competition began with 20 secondary schools from across Ekiti State. Through three challenging rounds, the field was gradually reduced to four finalists.

In the grand finale, held at the Obafemi Awolowo Conventional Civic Centre in Ado-Ekiti, Christ the King College emerged as the overall winner after a closely contested competition.

Petoa City College (2), Olorunsogo, Ado-Ekiti, secured the first runner-up position. Federal Government Girls College, Efon-Alaaye, finished as the second runner-up, while St. Louis Grammar School, Ikere-Ekiti, completed the list of finalists.

The STEM quiz was designed to celebrate excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics while encouraging students to apply their knowledge under pressure.

The competition progressed through several stages. Initially, 20 schools participated before 10 qualified for the next round. Subsequently, six schools reached the semi-finals, with only four advancing to the final.

Such competitions provide valuable opportunities for students to develop analytical thinking, teamwork and communication skills. Moreover, they encourage healthy competition and inspire greater interest in STEM subjects.

Although Christ the King College lifted the trophy, organisers emphasised that every participating student gained valuable learning experiences.
