Dwight School Cairo has welcomed its first students for the 2026–27 academic year, giving families another international education option in Egypt. The school opened on 14 September at Cairo Festival City, with its official inauguration taking place on 21 September.
The campus is a partnership between Dwight Schools and Al-Futtaim Education Foundation. It brings Dwight’s international school network together with Al-Futtaim’s regional education experience.
The opening phase welcomes children from Pre-K through Grade 5. The school plans to introduce Grades 6 to 9 in the 2027–28 academic year, with further expansion planned over time.
What Dwight School Cairo Offers Students
The first phase includes flexible classrooms, specialist learning areas, a library, a makerspace and music spaces. Shared areas are also designed to support collaboration, exploration and student wellbeing.
These facilities provide opportunities for students to learn through different activities, from classroom lessons to creative projects. However, the quality of the educational experience will depend on how teachers use these spaces to support learning.
Dwight’s approach places emphasis on personalised learning, with the aim of recognising each student’s interests, strengths and needs. For parents, it will be important to understand how this approach works in practice, including how teachers track progress and adapt support.
The school is also drawing on the research-based expertise of Al-Futtaim Education Foundation’s Centre for Excellence in Arabic to support its approach to Arabic-language teaching.
A Partnership Between Dwight Schools And Al-Futtaim
Dwight School Cairo marks Dwight’s first school on the African continent. The network already has schools in locations including New York, London, Seoul, Shanghai, Dubai and Hanoi, alongside its online provision.
Through this network, students in Cairo are expected to have opportunities to collaborate with peers and educators at other campuses. These connections could support cultural exchange and help students engage with perspectives beyond their local school community.
The partnership also brings together two organisations with different strengths. Dwight contributes its international experience, while Al-Futtaim Education Foundation brings regional knowledge and an established focus on education.
Mira Al-Futtaim, Chief Future Education Officer at Al-Futtaim Education Foundation and Chairwoman of Emiratisation at Al-Futtaim Group said,
“The inauguration of Dwight School Cairo marks an important milestone in our long-term commitment to transforming education in the region.”
She added that the partnership brings together Al-Futtaim Education Foundation’s deep understanding of the region and its communities with Dwight’s more than 150 years of educational experience and student-centered approach.
For families, the long-term value of this partnership will depend on how effectively the school combines its international connections with the needs of students and the wider Cairo community.
What The School’s Expansion Means For Families
Dwight School Cairo is taking a phased approach to enrolment. It currently serves students from Pre-K through Grade 5, with Grades 6 to 9 scheduled for introduction in 2027–28.
This gradual expansion means families considering the school should check which year groups are available for their child’s intended entry date. They may also wish to ask how the school plans to support students as additional grades are introduced.
The school’s website lists its curriculum as the International Baccalaureate, with accreditation marked as pending. Parents should therefore confirm the current authorisation status and which programmes will be offered before making enrolment decisions.
Additionally, families can ask about class sizes, assessment methods, language provision, learning support and the transition between primary and secondary education. These details can help parents assess whether the school meets their child’s needs beyond its facilities and international connections.
Connecting Cairo Students With A Global School Community
Dwight School Cairo’s opening adds another option to the city’s international education landscape. Its global network may provide opportunities for students to collaborate across countries, share projects and learn about different cultures.
Dr. Blake Spahn, Vice Chancellor of the Dwight-Franklin School Group said,
“Opening Dwight School Cairo is a major milestone for our global network and a profound responsibility, When Dwight enters a new city, our goal is to build a school that belongs to its community while opening doors to the world.”
For students, international connections can broaden classroom discussions and encourage collaboration with peers from different backgrounds. Meanwhile, a strong local identity remains important, particularly in language learning and understanding the community in which students live.
The school’s development will be worth following as it introduces additional grades and builds its student community. Its longer-term impact will depend on the quality of teaching, the support provided to students and how well its international approach responds to local needs.
