British Oasis Academy in Abuja has appointed William Stephen Pope as its new principal, bringing more than 45 years of experience in education to the Nigerian school.

Pope, a South African national with Dutch, Irish and Scottish ancestry, has worked across South Africa and Nigeria. His career spans classroom teaching, curriculum development and school administration, with experience in student management, staff development, research and academic planning.

The appointment comes as the academy prepares for the 2026/27 academic session and plans to expand its educational offering.

Experienced Leadership Across South Africa And Nigeria

Pope has held roles in several Nigerian schools, including Grange Schools, Nobelhouse and KIA Lakeside Academy. His experience across different school environments is expected to support British Oasis Academy’s plans to strengthen its academic programmes and wider school experience.

According to reports, he has already assumed the principal’s role.

Academic Excellence And Student Development

Under its new leadership, the academy is expected to focus on academic excellence, discipline, sports development, civic responsibility and leadership training.

These priorities reflect an approach that extends beyond academic results to include students’ personal development and participation in school life.

The school’s facilities include classrooms, science laboratories, boarding accommodation, medical provision and sporting and recreational spaces. It offers both boarding and day-school options.

Nursery And Primary Expansion Planned

A key development under Pope’s leadership is the planned introduction of nursery and primary school sections. The expansion is intended to extend the academy’s provision beyond secondary education, with the new programmes scheduled to begin in September 2026.

The development would broaden the school’s offering and create opportunities for younger learners to join the institution.

Admissions Open For 2026/27
