The rapid expansion of major school networks is shifting how families select academic pathways across emerging markets. Notably, South African education provider ADvTECH has confirmed its acquisition of Regis Runda Academy in Kenya for R172 million.
This strategic move highlights massive private education sector growth across the continent, capturing the attention of school leaders and global investors alike.
The newly acquired institution will operate under the Makini Schools brand and will be renamed Makini Schools Runda. Situated in a rapidly developing area of Nairobi, the campus can accommodate up to 2,000 students. For parents and educators seeking premium options, this expansion offers greater choice and security within a well-established, highly trusted corporate structure.
Meeting the Demand for Premium Schooling Options
Kenya has seen a remarkable rise in family investments directed towards globalised curricula and modern learning facilities. ADvTECH CEO Geoff Whyte said,
“We are delighted to increase our Makini Schools footprint in Kenya and to bring the brand’s compelling proposition to parents and students.”
Furthermore, this transaction solidifies a broader trend where mobile families actively seek high-quality regional schooling alternatives. The Runda suburb, located northeast of Nairobi, acts as a magnet for upwardly mobile families, making it an ideal choice for expansion. This acquisition gives the group a total of six Makini campuses in Kenya, alongside its premium Crawford International brand.
Local Buzz and Growing Continental Ambitions
The local community has reacted warmly to this development. On social media, Kenyan parents and education commentators noted the move as “a welcome boost to quality learning options in Nairobi’s northeast.” Meanwhile, South African LinkedIn users applauded the forward-thinking corporate strategy, with one comment reading,
“Love to see a South African brand going global the right way, focusing on quality education and building African futures.”
This widespread community support aligns with the group’s broader multi-country expansion plan.
This latest move follows a R135 million acquisition of five Flipper International Schools in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, alongside existing operations in Botswana. Additionally, the group is launching Rosebank International University College in Accra, Ghana, creating a continuous pipeline for learners.
This integrated approach addresses a major theme in private education sector growth, which is securing the student journey under one banner. By connecting early years schooling with higher education, the group offers a stable model that benefits local communities and regional partners. Ultimately, this growth illustrates that private schooling has become a highly valuable regional export, creating strong pathways for students across Africa.
