Ebelechukwu International Group of Schools in Nkpor, Anambra State, has secured a top-three finish at a national spelling competition in Lagos.
The school finished as second runner-up among 191 participating schools from across Nigeria. The result marks its first appearance at a competition of this national scale and gives students an opportunity to build on their success at state level.
For students and educators, the achievement highlights the role of preparation, teamwork and sustained participation in academic competitions.

Ebelechukwu International Group of Schools has operated for more than a decade and has built a strong record in competitions across Anambra State.
The school’s director and proprietor, Chief Timothy Ebelechukwu Chukwukelu, said the school was established with a vision of providing quality education to children from different backgrounds, including families with limited financial resources.
He also recalled his earlier community work in Nkpor, including providing borehole water facilities for villages, towns and churches.
According to Chukwukelu, 191 schools took part in the national competition. Ebelechukwu International Group of Schools ultimately secured third place.
He described the achievement as significant for the school, Nkpor, Idemili-North Local Government Area, Anambra State and Nigeria.
Students And Teachers Prepare For National Competition
The national achievement followed extensive preparation by the school’s students and teachers.
Mr Roland Nwekeson, principal of the junior section at Campus 3 in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area, coordinated the competition team.
Nwekeson said the students received focused preparation before travelling to Lagos. Their performance placed them among the three best schools in the national competition.
He also outlined an ambitious goal for the school. The next target is to compete successfully at African level and build on the experience gained in Nigeria.
Students Gain Experience Beyond The Classroom
For the students, the competition offered more than a chance to win.
Miss Chikamso Genevieve Ngwu, an SS2 student and team leader, said the national event was different from the inter-campus, local and state competitions the school had previously attended.
She said the team had the opportunity to meet and compete against high-performing students from different parts of Nigeria.
The three-day competition was demanding, she added. However, preparation, commitment, hard work, prayers and God’s grace helped the team reach the top.
For students, experiences such as these can strengthen confidence, communication and teamwork. They can also encourage learners to test their knowledge outside their regular classroom environment.
School Focuses On Developing The Whole Child
Mr Ausca Atiata, principal of Campus 1, said the school is focused on raising a total child.
He said the school’s previous competition successes were built on hard work, passion and commitment.
According to Atiata, students receive support across academic and moral development. He said the team first won during the preliminary competition in Obosi before progressing to the national event in Lagos.
The national competition then placed students through several rigorous stages before Ebelechukwu International Group of Schools finished among the leading schools.

The school now hopes to take its competition experience beyond Nigeria.
Atiata expressed confidence that Ebelechukwu International Group of Schools could replicate its national success at African school quiz competitions.
He said the school is committed to developing students who can compete internationally and contribute to a wider global community.
