The Emeris Higher Education is set to reshape private tertiary education in South Africa as The Independent Institute of Education (IIE) brings Varsity College, Vega School and MSA under one unified identity. The new brand, launching in 2026, arrives at a time of expected legislative reforms that could see leading private institutions recognised as universities. It also signals a major shift in how private education is structured, delivered and experienced by students and families.
A Unified Direction for Higher Education
Emeris Higher Education draws on more than 30 years of private education experience, with a strong academic base. Out of 300 academics, 203 hold Master’s or Doctorate degrees, while 87 are currently pursuing doctorates.
The institution offers over 40 accredited postgraduate programmes, including Master’s and Doctoral qualifications, with further expansion planned. Additionally, three engineering qualifications have been introduced, making it the only private institution in South Africa with ECSA accreditation. ADvTECH Group CEO, Geoff Whyte said,

Sandton Campus to Become a Major Student Hub
A new R420 million Sandton campus will become a central hub for Emeris Higher Education, bringing Varsity College Sandton and Vega Bordeaux together on one site. Opening in 2026, it will accommodate up to 9,000 students. The campus will include a library, student support services, and spaces for careers and counselling. It will also feature an indoor sports centre, IT labs, podcast studios and interactive learning areas.
Industry Links and Student Readiness
Emeris Higher Education will continue strengthening partnerships with industry and civil society. Therefore, the focus remains on preparing students for real workplace demands. Students will gain exposure to sustainability, ethical leadership and environmental awareness. Additionally, smaller class sizes will support personalised learning.
