Muslim World League Chief Attends Graduation of 70,000 Quran Memorizers in Rwanda

The Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr Mohammed Al-Issa, attended a graduation ceremony honouring 70,000 male and female memorizers of the Holy Quran in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali.

The ceremony brought together ministers, officials, scholars and a large gathering of students and families. It celebrated graduates who completed memorisation of the Quran through educational programmes supervised by the league in several countries, particularly across Africa.

League’s Commitment to Quran Education

In his opening remarks, Al-Issa highlighted the league’s efforts in serving the Holy Quran and supporting its memorizers worldwide, including safeguarding them against extremist ideologies and protecting them from falling into the influence of violent organisations. Emphasising that all its activities are carried out in coordination with, and under the direct supervision of, the governments of the countries in which it operates a fundamental condition for its work, Al-Issa said,

He added that the league welcomes all parties to review the outcomes of its Quranic institutes and centres and benefit from what he described as a distinguished international model in Quran memorisation, education and student development. He stressed that with government oversight, host countries are partners in both responsibility and success.

Graduates Praise Moderation and Balance

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Dr Abkar Walar Mado praised the academic institutes affiliated with the league for nurturing Quran memorizers and instilling values of moderation and balance. He expressed appreciation to the league’s host country, the Saudi Arabia, describing it as a source of continued support for Islam and Muslims. Mado thanked the league for its efforts in caring for Quran memorizers and enhancing their religious awareness in line with the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet, saying they have become beacons of moderation. He also commended the league’s broader work in promoting coexistence and peace among nations.

Showcasing Impact Across Africa

The ceremony featured a visual presentation outlining the Muslim World League’s efforts in Quran education through its institutes and centres, highlighting memorisation and qualification programmes and their impact in promoting Quranic teachings. Outstanding memorizers and teachers were honoured during the event, with presentations on their educational journeys, achievements and the leadership roles they assumed after graduation, reflecting the influence of Quranic education in fostering excellence and leadership.
